Is it summer?

I'm sure I'm jinxing it, but the weather has finally been cooperating, at least some of the time.  This Sunday was just beautiful - so clear, not too hot, not too cold.  Perfect day to be outside!

Grady has gotten very good at sitting in big boy chairs, so we had lunch outside on our deck furniture.  Here he is looking quite regal.

And not so regal.

It's hard to be dignified when there are bananas!

After lunch, we went for a walk.

We headed over to Marshall Park in SW Portland because Portland Parks Finder said it had a playground and walking trails - perfect!  Unfortunately, when we got to the area the playground was supposed to be, it was gone!  Not even closed, just completely removed!  Oh well, hard to complain when surrounded by such beautiful scenery.

Grady has been very difficult to photograph lately, largely because he is too busy pointing to everything and saying "DAT!"  (It's usually a tree.)  Here's one good one.

The secret behind the smile?  Spinning him around in circles and then having Matt take a picture as soon as we stop.  I'm hoping by the time he's 13 or so I still won't be expected to do this!

Since we didn't get to let Grady play at Marshall Park, we next headed to Council Crest.  Despite some minor difficulties in finding the place, it was worth it for these views.

Apparently, Grady is still a little to young to appreciate it.

Grady had one of his first close-up encounters with a very excited little dog who liked to give kisses.  I didn't get a picture, but he was pretty unsure about the whole thing.  No tears, just a look like "what am I expected to do here?"

Speaking of dogs.  Grady is pretty fascinated by them, and has learned, for the most part, that dogs are "das" rather that cats. (The small ones still throw him for a loop sometimes.)  He is even trying to do the sign for dog, which is quite tricky and involves a snap.  He just sort of slides his thumb between his pointer and middle fingers.  Some other words Grady has picked up:  "uh oh," "tofu," and "pop."  He also distinctly said "mommy" today when he woke up and I didn't immediately come in, but I'm still calling that coincidence.  His unhappy noise is a na na or ma ma generally.  So yes, we're still waiting on the mama and dada from our little guy.

Grady also had his first onstage experience this weekend.  There was a big "kindie" music event in town this weekend, and my business partner Tabitha and I were there to promote our events website.  Tabitha brought Grady up on stage, and he was completely nonplussed - perhaps even a bit surly!

It was a really fun weekend, and we even stored up a little of that vitamin D for the inevitable return to rain.
